Throw out the big resolutions this new year – focus on smaller lifestyle changes

Happy New Year! And not just a new year, but a whole new decade. It’s that time of year when people make big resolutions for change. Many of these resolutions don’t last beyond January (gyms are proof of this with their busiest months in January) and then the guilt and beating yourself up sets in as you feel like even more of a failure for not managing to keep your resolution.

How about being a little easier on yourself this year, while still making positive changes? Start with a sheet of A4 and write ‘me’ or draw a little picture of yourself in the middle. Draw several spokes coming out and write areas of your life which you feel are important to you. This might include areas such as money, work, friends, family, lifestyle, health etc. Then from each of these areas add a few more spokes of small changes that you will make in each of these areas.  It might be; see my brother more; get a new job; go for a run once a week etc. This way of doing things focuses your mind on changes that will make you happier and healthier right across your life, without putting on undue pressure. It also helps you to take a real overview of your life and become clear about the way you want to live going forward.

Here is to a happy and successful 2020!
